The Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS) announced on the 4th that it will hold the "2024 International Conference on GIS (ICGIS)" on November 6, 2024 at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.

ICGIS is hosted by the Geospatial Information Policy Research Center of KRIHS and organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT). The event is held as part of the "2024 K-GEO Festa" (formerly the Smart Geo Expo).

Celebrating its 16th anniversary this year, 2024 K-GEO Festa is Asia's largest geospatial information technology exchange expo, running for three days from November 6 to 8, 2024.

The theme for this year's ICGIS is "Applications and Challenges of GeoAI for a Better Life."

The conference will feature keynote speeches by:

• Prof. Ayman Habib (Purdue University, USA): "Proximal and Ultra-Proximal Sensing for Sustainable Environments: Opportunities and Challenges"
• Prof. Song Gao (University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA): "Opportunities and Challenges of Geospatial Artificial Intelligence"
• Prof. Weng Qihao (The Hong Kong Polytechnic University): "Earth Observation and GeoAI Technologies for Making the Planet's Urban Environments Sustainable"

The keynote sessions will be followed by invited presentations from Prof. Kangjae Lee (Kyungpook National University), Prof. Li Na (Hanyang University), Prof. Yoshihide Sekimoto (The University of Tokyo), Associate Research Fellow Johan Chang (KRIHS), and Prof. Jaeho Kim (Sejong University).

The presentations will cover five key areas:

• The Role and Application of Explainable AI (XAI) in the GeoAI Era
• Geospatial Intelligence for Future Cities: Linking Urban Form, Climate, and Energy
• Sustainable Development of Urban Digital Twins
• Convergence of Virtual and Reality: Designing the Future City
• Opportunities to Redefine AI Ethics through GeoAI
